چکیده

It has been stated recently (Hunter, 1943) that the ideal antiseptic should possess high germicidal and inhibitory properties over the widest possible range of the commoner pathogenic organisms, a low tissue toxicity, efficiency in the presence of organic matter, power to penetrate, stability, and moderate cost. In this country the commoner pathogenic organisms include a great number of mycotic agents, these latter being especially common in moist, humid regions and during the monsoon period. It is therefore considered that the ideal antiseptic should possess a well-marked fungicidal as well as a bactericidal effect. This report intends to show that certain organic mercurial drugs possess the above-mentioned properties in the highest degree, and it is felt that, in the latest spate of literature concerning modern antiseptics, this remarkable series of compounds has been greatly neglected. Before describing the uses and method of application of the above-mentioned drugs, it would be well to explain the rationale governing the use of antiseptics and bactericidal ̂ substances whose active agent is a phenol radicle or Hg cation.

Effect of aminoacids on the fungicidal activity of quaternary ammonium salts

Amphipatic compounds exhibit an antimicrobial action both on bacteria and fungi. It is caused by a penetrative property of hydrophobic carbon chain of the compuound into a plasma membrane as well as by additional interaction of membrane elements and a hydrophilic amphipathic compound head. Bactericidal and fungicidal activity of this compound strongly depends on chemical environmental factors. ...

Bioefficacy of Lantana camara L. against Some Human Pathogens

Antimicrobial efficacy of flavonoids (free and bound) and crude alkaloids of Lantana camara L. was determined by disc diffusion assay against three bacteria (Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Staphylococcus aureus) and two fungi (Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes). Minimum inhibitory concentration, minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration and total activity were also ...

Chemical constitution and fungistatic action of organic sulphur compounds.

Elementary sulphur and some of its inorganic compounds have long been of practical importance for the control of parasitic and saprophytic fungi, but the use of organic compounds of sulphur is of more recent origin. Compounds such as tetramethylthiuram disulphide and certain metallic salts of dithiocarbamic acids are now of commercial importance in this connexion (Tisdale & Flenner, 1942; Rober...
